Choose a photographer who values your dreams!
Bringing Your Wedding Memories to Life
No couple is exactly alike and neither is their wedding. As the wise Patrick Swayze once had expertly written, iconic movie dialogue written for him said, “Nobody puts baby in a corner!” Don’t let anyone put you and your wedding in a corner either. Whether you want to include your furry best friend, spend time to head out for a beautiful location for formal photos, or surprise your guests with a lip sync dance off, you be you! I’m there to help you figure out how we can make it work on your wedding day and to advise on any potential pitfalls. I’ve photographed over 175 weddings and have over 12 years of experience so I have a really good idea of how the flow of your wedding day will go and generally know what works and what doesn’t. I’m happy to share my experience with you to ensure that your wedding day is exactly what you dreamed.
Depending on the complexity of the event you are planning you may have hundreds of wedding decisions to make which can be incredibly daunting. Finding your wedding photographer tends to be one of the most important for many couples and it’s my goal to give you the peace of mind and confidence you need to book so that you can move on to the many other decisions you must make regarding your wedding. When the flurry and excitement of your wedding day is over and you find yourselves as newlyweds it will be your beautifully captured images that help you revisit all of the fun and good times that you had. It’s amazing how fast it all goes by and you are going to want someone whose pictures fill you with happy memories and not regret.
View Portfolio images from an entire wedding
Here’s a little insider knowledge about online wedding photography portfolios; anyone halfway decent with a camera can come up with enough pretty shots to fill a portfolio. Yup, I said it! To find someone you can really trust on your wedding day you may need to dig a little deeper and ask to see a some full weddings. If they’ve photographed at your venue before, even better since they can show you the same place where you will be getting married. Browsing through full weddings will give you a better sense of what the true coverage of a wedding day will be like from your photographer. I’m happy to share entire wedding galleries with you so that you can go beyond the highlights and rest assured that the quality you expect shines throughout the whole wedding day.
Choose someone who you click with!
This one might seem pretty obvious, but it’s important to choose someone you think you might enjoy spending a good amount of time with. Your photographer is one of the wedding vendors you will end up being around the most so pick someone whose personality you like! I would love the opportunity to meet with you and see if we click!
In addition to the above advice, I wrote an article that goes more in depth about how to choose the perfect photographer for you.
Check it out HERE
Let’s get together! On the phone, at my meeting space in west Denver (823 Knox Court) or even skype - I’m flexible. We’ll chat about your wedding day, confirm your date, talk about your timeline to decide how many hours would make sense for you, and discuss all of the fun details too. I’ll show you some examples of the gorgeous wedding albums I can create for you as well as other fun ways to display your wedding photos after the wedding day is over. Together we will figure out the perfect package for you.
Once we confirm details, I will prepare your contract online where you can also pay your retainer fee.
After you have filled out and signed your online contract and paid the retainer fee, your wedding date will officially be reserved for you.
The Next Steps: What You Can Expect After You Book
6-8 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR WEDDING: I will send a questionnaire to gather all of your wedding details that may have come together since the last time we spoke, the most important being your formal photo list so that we can make sure your timeline will work for the number of photos you have requested. I will also send an invoice for your remaining wedding balance.
The easiest part of your wedding plans!
2 WEEKS PRIOR TO YOUR WEDDING: Your final payment is due and we will confirm the details on your wedding questionnaire.
YOUR WEDDING DAY: The fun begins!
3-4 WEEKS AFTER YOUR WEDDING DATE: Your sneak peek preview story is posted to the blog for you and your friends and family to enjoy.
4-6 WEEKS AFTER YOUR WEDDING DATE: Your full wedding is posted in the online gallery. Friends and family have 30 days to order prints at a 25% discount. Your USB drives will be mailed out shortly after the 25% discount ends. If your package includes an album*, your USB drives will be mailed or delivered once you have approved your final album design.
*There is no set timeline for albums due to their custom nature. The time of year, deciding who is picking the photos and how quickly changes and notes are returned for the album design can greatly affect the delivery timeline.
Engagement sessions are a fun way to share the story of who you are as a couple and they are an ideal way to become more comfortable in front of the camera before your wedding day. It’s also a great way to fill in with more professional portraits of the two of you together when the wedding day timeline is tight with not much time for portraits of the two of you alone.
Your engagement session can take place at your favorite hiking trail, your favorite date location, or a place that is special for the two of you. A return to your proposal location or a favorite restaurant or brewery or any place that holds a special significance to you as a couple are all great ideas for where to photograph your engagement photos. We can also create new memories at a pretty, photogenic location too.
We will get a variety of different poses, both formal and informal and have a ton of fun creating them. The engagement session will be an experience in and of itself and you’ll be surprised at what a fun part of the wedding process it is! So go ahead and make a date of it. There’s always a good reason to make a date night with your honey!

“April was absolutely wonderful to work with through the planning process and the wedding itself. From our very first meeting, she listened to my husband and me attentively and was sure to understand what we desired from our wedding photos. On the wedding day she was discreet and very efficient. She captured images we never would have thought of. She also stuck around well into the reception and got some really fun photos that we can cherish in addition to the lovely family photos that she took.
At our outdoor ceremony we had an unexpected guest in the form of a black bear and she never stopped taking pictures! She and her fabulous assistant were truly amazing and she gave us the photos that we will be able to look back on for a lifetime!
I would highly recommend April to anyone!”
Chris and Shannon’s wedding was unforgettable. Not just because of their warm and funny personalities, but also because it’s the one and hopefully only wedding I’ve photographed where a real live black bear stumbled out of the woods to join the celebration! They were married during spring in the foothills of Denver at the Pines of Genesee where the mountains start to rise up from the plains. We were halfway through the ceremony when a scraggly-looking adolescent black bear’s curiosity got the better of him and he decided to check out Chris and Shannon’s vows. Luckily the crowd of guests managed to remain calm and we all made a bunch of noise to scare him off when our initial bewilderment and awed silence seemed to welcome him.
After he retreated back into the woods, we finished the ceremony quite quickly (with one eye looking over our shoulders) until we made it to the safety of the indoor reception. Chris and Shannon are lucky that they have such a wild (but ultimately safe) story from their wedding day that they’ll get to tell their grandchildren about someday!

A smooth flow to your special day
Great wedding days don’t just happen magically by themselves. They take a bit of organization. To ensure a smooth flow of beautifully captured memories of your day, a timeline of wedding events will help guide your planning.
click to view a sample timeline
Getting ready: Pre-Ceremony Preparations
1-2 hours
I generally like to arrive around 1.5 hours before hair and make-up will be finished to capture the fun behind the scenes preparations and also lots of the wedding detail pictures too. I do my best to visit both partners during this time which is more easily done when both are getting ready near each other. You’ll want to leave an extra 15-20 minutes in the timeline if you are planning for a first look as well.
The Wedding Ceremony
15 min-1.5 hours
Wedding ceremony lengths vary widely. Afterward, be sure to account for an extra 5-15 minutes to allow your guests to leave the venue or an impromptu receiving line before we can begin your formal photos.
Formal Group & Family Photos
30 minutes-2 hours
Formal portrait timing will depend on group size and the number of different family/group combinations you would like to capture. You will prepare your formal list prior to your wedding day so that I can give you an approximate time estimate. Some couples who want to fit in a good amount of formal photos will opt to do some of them prior to the ceremony so that their guests don’t have to wait as long for them to join the reception party. You can roughly estimate about 2-3 minutes for each group photo with less than 5 people and estimate roughly 3-5 minutes for the larger groups of 5 or more people in them.
The Newlyweds
20-60 minutes
The timing for pictures of the two of you alone can be split up throughout the day but I recommend planning for at least 20 minutes of time in the schedule for photos of the two of you together. Bonus points if we can make some of these minutes happen during sunset. I will usually ask if I can take you out for about 10-15 min of pictures at sunset so that we can use the prettiest light of your whole wedding day.
Your Reception
1.5-4 hours
Your first dance, speeches, cake cutting, dancing guests, + friends and family sharing in your joy. These are all moments you will want captured during your reception and the amount of time needed to capture most of this can be stacked toward the beginning of your reception or you can opt to spread it out through the evening.
Remember: Your wedding day is unique and planning together ensures that you don’t miss a minute of coverage for your special day.
In order to provide my clients a truly customized wedding package I have “choose your own adventure” style package pricing where you begin by selecting the number of hours you would like coverage for on your wedding day. $600 for up to 4 hours total, $800 for up to 6 hours and weddings that are up to 8 hours are $950 for a second photographer. ($420/$560/$665 when added to your package)
I will choose the best quality 2nd photographer I can find to complement my photography style for your wedding date. I prefer to choose from photographers who run their own successful businesses who have your date open which is why I wait until a couple of months before your wedding date since the more talented photographers will want to book their own weddings before filling in with second photographer jobs on dates they still have open. This means you will not know ahead of time who will be the 2nd photographer at your wedding but rest assured, I am picky about who I ask to photograph weddings with me.

-The outside of the box photobooth is not a traditional photobooth where guests squeeze into a tiny box to get their photos taken together. Instead we will set up an actual backdrop that larger groups will be able to stand in front of while a real camera with lighting is set up to take the photos. Here’s an example of an outside of the box photobooth picture taken at my own wedding!

“We hired April for our wedding this summer and hiring her was the best decision we could have made! I cannot say enough good things about her professionalism and her skills. Our pictures turned out absolutely amazing, I truly love every one of them. Since we’ve shared them with our friends and family, I have received so many compliments and messages admiring the photos. April is truly gifted and we are so lucky to have snatched her up for our wedding! She was very good about communicating before, during, and after the wedding to make sure we were getting exactly what we wanted.
Not only is she a great photographer, but she was a great person to be around on our wedding day. Thank you April for a job extremely well done! We’ll be grateful to you for the rest of our lives!”
Max and Kim have such an incredible mix of super scientific smarts (they both have a PhD in chemistry!) with a great passion and love for each other. I witnessed this firsthand at their wedding where the heat between them was palpable. It makes perfect sense to me that they were engaged with the lava flow in Volcano, Hawaii as the backdrop because the love they hold for each other is fiery! They also have a really playful and fun side which I think was showcased well at their Wedgewood Mountain View Ranch wedding which used to be a summer camp in the mountains of Pine, Colorado. It’s filled with old and new barns, wildflowers, overgrown grassy fields, and beautiful vistas of rocky outcrops all of which provided a lovely variety of backdrops for their wedding photos.
